Your Albany apartment is just a short drive away from endless outdoor activities. Enjoy boating, fishing, or kayaking on one of the local lakes and rivers. Or take a hike through one of the various nature trails nearby. Here are a few local favorites to explore:
Thatcher Park
Thatcher State Park offers 25 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, or just taking a stroll. In addition to hiking trails there are picnic spots, playgrounds, ball fields, volleyball courts and more to enjoy. If you are interested in camping, Thatcher Park offers accommodations at Thompson’s Lake Campground.
Washington Park
Right in Albany, NY is one of the most beautifully sculpted parks in the Capital Region. The 84 acre park offers opportunities to jog, picnic, fish, site-see, bird-watch, and more. A local favorite, the Annual Tulip Festival, is held in Washington Park every summer.
Plotter Kill Falls
Enjoy a waterfall walk at the Plotter Kill Preserve in Rotterdam. The Plotter Kill is a tributary of the Mohawk River that flows through a gorge where you can view three impressive waterfalls. There are several different trails ranging from 1 to 6 mile loops. Difficulty levels range from easy to moderate.
Mountain Ridge Adventure
This adventurous treetop challenge course & zip-line park is just a short 30 min drive from Albany, NY. Challenge yourself physically and mentally as you navigate your way through various obstacles like Indiana Jones-style bridges, Tarzan Swings, Swiss cheese walls, and more. Be sure to also try out the zip-line course that takes you over a 500 foot gorge.

Albany is known for its live entertainment scene. In the summer season many bars offer their patrons live music. If you are looking to dance to some good tunes, there are many great night clubs within the downtown area. Every Thursday during the summer, Jennings Landing is home to Albany’s signature free concert series. The event showcases a lineup of big names, up-and-coming artists, and some local favorites. Enjoy the good tunes and indulge in great food and beverages from local vendors.
Albany River Front Jazz Festival
The City of Albany Jazz Festival is another local favorite. This summer festival features jazz greats, up-and-coming artists, and local favorites. The all day concert also offers great food and beverages from local vendors. Best of all, the Jazz Festival is suitable for all ages and free! Be sure to stay until after dark to catch the fireworks show.
Upstate Concert Hall
If you like to get up close and personal with your favorite bands, the Upstate Concert Hall is the place for you. This concert venue is in a strip mall in Clifton Park, and stages various hard-rock, metal, hip-hop & underground shows throughout the year.

This unique drinking tour in Albany’s Warehouse District on Broadway allows you to sample local brews from some of Albany Count’s most popular craft beverage facilities. The tour includes stops at Albany Distilling Company, C.H. Evans Brewing Co, Nine Pin Cider Works, and Druthers Brewing Company.
Southern Adirondack Wine & Food Festival
Sample local foods and wine all in one place! This wine & food festival is located in the foothills of the Adirondacks in downtown Gloversville, NY. The festival features NYS wineries, local restaurants, musicians, arts & crafts, and more.
Schenectady Greenmarket
Every Sunday throughout the summer the Outdoor market is home to more than 70 vendors from around the area. It is a one-stop-shop for fresh groceries, produce, and meats. In addition you can purchase baked goods, take-away meals, international foods, hand crafted goods, and artisan items.

Flight Trampoline Park
If your kid is a bundle of energy, tire them out at Albany’s own Trampoline Park. At this sports facility you and your family can bounce in the open jump field, featuring 60+ connected trampolines, play trampoline dodgeball, dunk basketballs on hoops of different levels, or show off your tricks at the foam pit. FunPlex Fun Park
Your family will love Albany’s FunPlex! The fun park offers a variety of activities such as miniature gold, co-karts, bungee trampolines, bumper boats, rock walls, and more. Top off the day with a delicious ice cream cone.
Indian Ladder Farms
Bring the kids to pick their own blueberries & raspberries! Afterwards the family can munch on delicious cider donuts and enjoy a unique petting zoo. Indian Ladder Farms is not far from Thatcher State Park, allowing your family to enjoy an entire day in the fresh air and sunshine.
Adirondack Animal Land
The Capital Region’s largest zoo is a must see. The zoo offers guests over 100 animals and 40+ different species. Your family will love the 45 acre African Safari ride that allows you to get up close to these unique animals. Top it off the experience by hand feeding baby animals and enjoying the largest animal petting area in the Adirondacks. Currently, Adirondack Animal Land is open for drive-through only.
