Spring is here and with it, the local attractions just outside the door at One Broadway are warming up along with the weather. From outdoor dining to recreation to local events the best outdoor fun the area has to offer is on tap in Albany.
Our Favorite Ways to Enjoy the Spring Season From Your Apartment in Menands
Enjoy Patio Dining: When April rolls around the tables and umbrellas start going up outside many Albany eateries. From Wolff’s Biergarten to Nine Pin Cider Works to Druthers Brewing Co. at the Northern end of Broadway, you can enjoy a bite and bask in the nice weather. Don’t miss out on the great choices offered by the Capital Food Trucks. The trucks are staged adjacent to West Capitol Park along New Scotland Avenue and there’s another location this year between Albany Medical Center and South Lake Avenue.
Walk, Jog, Bike, and Hike: The Mohawk Hudson Hike-Bike trail runs through Albany Loft’s backyard and is not only a great way to get some fresh air and exercise, but it’s also a perfect path to walk parallel to Broadway and access restaurants, shops and outdoor events. For adventurous athletes, the Albany Rowing Center offers adult programs and local 5K race events dot the calendar all year.
Shop at the Farmer’s Markets: Stock your fridge and pantry with fresh vegetables and homemade products ranging from honey to distilled spirits available at local farmer’s markets. Minutes away are the Washington Park Farmer’s Market, Troy Waterfront, and the Capital District Regional Market which is just off Broadway in Menands.
Tee it Up: There are more than 40 golf courses within an easy drive of Albany that fit any skill level or budget. Whether you want to join a private club or a Par 3 course is more your style, there’s plenty of options for pros and duffers.
Festivals, Plays & Music: Not matter what season it is, Albany loves to have fun. Park Playhouse offers great theater productions in an outdoor setting in Washington Park and music lovers will enjoy Alive at 5 and Jazz Festivals (also accessible from the Bike-Hike Path). Start planning for the 4th of July Fireworks at the Empire State Plaza — you’ll have a great view from Albany Lofts or you can head downtown to join the celebration.
Watch Some Baseball: Local amateur players take the field at Albany Twilight League games held at Bleeker Stadium and Bellizzi Field. The legendary league hopes to celebrate its 90th season this summer. Just across the river, the minor-league Tri-City Valley Cats play at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. For local college games, check out the schedules for SUNY Albany, Siena College, and the College of St. Rose.
Walk the dog: Your dog probably has the same case of Spring fever as you do. There are several dog parks where you can both stretch your legs and enjoy some sun. Visit Olde English Downtown or Westland Hills Dog Park and nearby Washington Park is a haven for dog-lovers. Albany Lofts is a dog-friendly residence with no breed or size restrictions three fenced-in dog runs and a dog washing station.
Take a River Cruise: Cast off for a fun, sightseeing cruise on the Dutch Apple. This popular craft is reminiscent of the wooden-hulled Hudson River Day Liners and is docked at Broadway and Quay Street. Just across the Menands bridge on River Street in Troy, the Captain JP offers dinner cruises that include dancing and great live music.
Hit the Pool: Need a lazy day to work on your tan? The Albany Loft’s pool is open every day from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and offers plenty of lounge chairs and umbrella-shaded tables and chairs. Residents can access the pool using their key fob and bring guests to join them on the sun-soaked patio.
